Leaving Japan¶

  • End Rakuten contract

  • Tell city hall intention to leave

  • Tell immigration intention to leave

  • Bicycle registration

  • Post office notice of address change

  • Cancel water, RKS Eza Washou, Swimming school, electricity, and wifi services (Swimming and wifi largest costs)

Rakuten Cancellation¶

  • Mail SIM card

  1. Envelope type

    • A standard small padded envelope (or a regular envelope if the SIM is inside a protective card) works.
    • Make sure the SIM is protected from bending — it’s a chip and can be damaged easily.

  2. Declaring contents

    • JP Bank / Japan Post staff will ask what’s inside for safety and insurance purposes.
    • Do not say “greeting card” if it isn’t.
    • You can say something like: 携帯電話SIMカード返却用 (Rakuten Mobile SIM Return)
    • 楽天モバイル　SIM返却係　御中 お世話になっております。
      以下のSIMカードを返却いたします。 ・契約者名：山田 太郎
      ・電話番号：090-1234-5678
      ・契約ID（任意）：1234567890

    ご確認のほど、よろしくお願いいたします。

  3. Postage

    • You pay the postage yourself.
    • For a small envelope, regular letter/postage (~84–94 yen) may be enough, but if you want tracking or proof of delivery, choose レターパックライト / レターパックプラス (~370–520 yen) or 書留.

  4. Protecting the SIM

    • Cut or tape the SIM to a small piece of cardboard to prevent bending.
    • Keep a photo of the SIM and envelope before sending for your records.

  5. Mail to the official address

    • Use exactly what Rakuten Mobile lists:
  • Write “SIM返却” clearly on the envelope.
  • Include your name, phone number, and Rakuten ID if possible inside a small note, so they can match it to your account.
  • Cancellation applications received by our company by the 15th will be canceled at the end of the month. Cancellation applications after the 16th will be canceled at the end of the following month.

About final billing¶

  • We will charge you using your current payment method. Please note that we do not perform daily calculations.
  • Returning a SIM Card
    • After canceling your subscription, you will need to return the SIM card you used. Please note that the customer will be responsible for the shipping fee for returning.If you do not return the SIM card, or if you find any abnormalities such as damage or disconnection on the returned SIM card, we may charge you for damage to the SIM card.
